Meet the Physicians
Sydney A. Smith, MD was born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi where he attended William B. Murrah High School. He played on the Murray High School tennis team winning the State Junior singles and doubles championship in 1959. He attended the University of Mississippi on a Carrier Scholarship, graduating as the Valedictorian of the senior class in 1963. He played No. 1 singles and doubles on the Ole Miss tennis team during his stay there.
Following service in the Army Intelligence Corps, he attended Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri. He was awarded the Robert B. Carter Medical School Prize upon graduation. He performed Medicine Internship and Residency at the University of Kentucky following graduation and then a full Neurology Residency under David B. Clark at the University of Kentucky. He was certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, with certification in Neurology, in 1977. Dr. Smith practiced in Fort Collins, Colorado beginning in 1976 and moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast in 1983.
Dr. Smith performed a fellowship in sleep medicine and
studied at Stanford University with certification by
the American Board of Sleep Medicine in 1993. He served
as the director of the Memorial Hospital in Gulfport
Sleep Disorders Center since that time; and now, with
Dr. Nalluri, is the co-director of the Sleep Institute of the Gulf Coast.
Dr. Smith resides in Gulfport with his son, Zachary.
Krishna R. Nalluri, M.D. was born and raised in India. He attended DVRMS school and obtained 1st rank in the High school final exams. He attended PreUniversity courses at Andhra Loyola College India, and is a graduate of Gunter Medical College.
Dr. Nalluri performed his internship at Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia, PA and then completed his neurology residency at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Montefiore Medical Center/BHMC, Bronx, NY. He also completed a fellowship in Neurophysiology, EMG/Neuro muscular diseases at the Down State University Medical Center, Brooklyn NewYork. He was certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with certification in Neurology in 1994. He practiced Neurology at East Stroudsburg, PA from 1988-90 and moved to the Gulf Coast in 1991.
Dr. Nalluri performed a working fellowship in Sleep Medicine in Birmingham, AL., and attended courses at Stanford University. He was certified by the American Board of Sleep Medicine in 1996. He has been practicing Sleep Medicine and Neurology in Gulfport since 1991, and now along with Dr. Smith, is the Co-Director of the Sleep Institute of the Gulf Coast. Dr. Nalluri resides in Biloxi, Ms. with his wife and son.
